GUYANA-VENEZUELA: Petrocaribe muffles Guyanese discontent

Given Venezuela's longstanding claims to two-thirds of Guyana's landmass, coupled with the Venezuelan authorities' recent admission they had shot, and killed, a Guyanese miner suspected of smuggling, President Bharrat Jagdeo's meeting with a Venezuelan delegation on 11 October went surprisingly well. Guyana agreed to renew its support for Venezuela's bid for a two-year non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council, placated somewhat by Venezuela agreeing to incorporate Guyana into its discount oil deal, Petrocaribe.
